Montessori Academy at Sharon Springs
Summer 2024
Uplift Academy provided students at Montessori Academy at Sharon Springs in Cumming, GA a 7 day summer camp in July 2024. Through personalized hands-on projects and interactive lessons taught by our insightful volunteers, students were able to learn foundational coding skills and apply them, showing their creativity along the way.
Day 1 | Students were introduced to the fundamentals of the Scratch platform, and by the end of the session, they developed a deeper understanding of key elements such as the stage, sprites, scripting, and the programming interface. |
Day 2 | Students had the chance to start their own creative projects, and by the end of the day, they had built a solid foundation for their games. |
Day 3 | Students explored loops and conditionals, and by the end of the day, they successfully integrated basic logic into their projects, enhancing interactivity and creating dynamic behaviors. |
Day 4 | Students explored variables and lists. They learned how to track scores and manage multiple elements in their games. By the end of the day, students were able to implement a points system in their games. |
Day 5 | Students were introduced to sound and animation. They experimented with creating sound effects and animating their sprites. By the end of the day, students added audio and animation elements to their projects. |
Day 6 | Students took part in a debugging session where they learned to identify and resolve errors in their code. By the end of the day, they had improved their troubleshooting skills and fine-tuned their projects. |
Day 7 | Students presented their final projects, sharing their creative ideas with the group. The camp wrapped up with a showcase where students demonstrated their games and received valuable feedback from peers and instructors. |
Fall 2024
Uplift Academy is partnered with Montessori at Sharon Spring in Cumming, GA for a 6 week HTML course which will run until the mid of Nov. Students will be able learn the basics of HTML and use their creative thinking to create their own customizable website.
Week 1 | Students started learning HTML, focusing on its basic structure and purpose. They worked with elements like headings, paragraphs, fonts, colors, and images to build simple web pages. |
Week 2 | Students learned more advanced HTML features, such as creating links, organizing content with lists, and displaying information using tables. They also explored forms to collect user input, like text fields and buttons. |
Week 3 | Students were introduced to CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) to improve the appearance of their websites. They learned how to change fonts, colors, and layouts to make their pages more visually appealing. |
Week 4 | The class combined HTML and CSS to create fully designed web pages. They worked on organizing their content effectively and using creative designs, like color schemes and unique fonts. |
Week 5 | Students spent the week improving their websites, adding final touches to their content and designs to make sure everything was polished and complete. |
Week 6 | In the final week, students shared their completed projects with their peers, showing off everything they had learned and created during the program. |
